Education

Education

Syngene aims to expand the creative and innovative learning experience of underprivileged children, taking necessary efforts to ensure a better standard of education. We support government initiatives by contributing to curriculum development, pedagogy and assisted in the creation of self-directed learning materials to improve the standard of education. The compendiums of Mathematics (Suvega), Kannada (Sumeru) and English (Rainbow) developed by Biocon Foundation in fellowship with Department of State Educational Research and Training (DSERT), Government of Karnataka, is available to students from grade 4 to 9 in across government schools in Karnataka.

CHINNARA GANITHA

Our education initiative for underprivileged children contributes to the attainment of a significant Sustainable Development Goal on the road to ‘‘inclusive and equitable quality education’’. Chinnara Ganitha is a workbook series exclusively developed by Biocon Foundation to promote a strong foundation in the basic concepts of mathematics in children. Its application-based modules are designed to make learning distinctly relevant in the context of the real-life experiences of the child. The curriculum for the series has been distilled to address the development of essential, age-appropriate mental math skills.

AATA PAATA WADI

Aata Paata Wadi is an afterschool enrichment program in English and phonics, life skills, art and craft, digital literacy and games for children of government schools. In a bid to overcome the challenge of geographical barriers in accessing the services, transport was arranged from school to the Aata Paata Wadi centre. Later, to achieve better administration and regular monitoring on quality aspects of education, the program was moved to Ashrama Residential School in Thithimati, a village situated in the Western Ghats in Kodagu district of the state of Karnataka, run by the State Social Welfare Department for tribal children from remote regions.

Syngene also supports government schools by providing infrastructure amenities which are otherwise restricted to select private schools. Our CSR program on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) addresses the inadequacies of safe drinking water and basic sanitation facilities in government schools to prevent diseases while boosting attendance and curbing dropout rates.

We have undertaken a major initiative to address the personal vulnerability of adolescent girls to health risks. The program jointly implemented with Government of Karnataka, Federation of Obstetric and Gynaecological Society of India (FOGSI) and St. John’s Medical College and Hospital (SJMCH), offers knowledge, skill and attitude in matters related to nutrition, sexual and reproductive health, menstrual hygiene and prevention of sexual harassment.
