Syngene undertakes its CSR activities through the Biocon Foundation, the CSR arm of the Biocon Group. Over the years, the Foundation has won recognition for its unerring commitment to furthering the founding philosophy of the group companies. A respected change maker, the Foundation lays out the CSR strategy in consultation with the multiple stakeholders and follows it up with effective planning and execution.

Areas of Intervention
Syngene is working on improving the public healthcare system by driving innovation, operational efficiency and productivity. eLAJ Smart Clinics have been instituted at 20 Primary Health Centres (PHCs) in Rajasthan and Karnataka, in partnership with the Government, to strengthen services and support health information management.
The eLAJ clinics offer preventive, early diagnosis and treatment for better health outcomes and reduce out-of-pocket expenses for patients. The in-house electronic patient record platform and real-time dashboard shape the health system by enabling data-driven quality improvements. (ii) Education: Syngene aims to expand the creative and innovative learning experience of underprivileged children, taking necessary efforts to ensure a better standard of education. We support government initiatives by contributing to curriculum development, pedagogy and assisted in the creation of self-directed learning materials to improve the standard of education. The compendiums of Mathematics (Suvega), Kannada (Sumeru) and English (Rainbow) developed by Biocon Foundation in fellowship with Department of State Educational Research and Training (DSERT), Government of Karnataka, is available to students from grade 4 to 9 in across government schools in Karnataka. (iii) Environmental Sustainability: Syngene, through Biocon Foundation, undertook the rejuvenation of Hebbagodi and Yarandahalli lakes in Bengaluru with the help of local stakeholders and government policymakers. A natural and eco-friendly method called bioremediation has been adopted for the treatment of sewage spilling into the lake. This method involves the application of enzymes-microorganisms to clean up the polluted water, energy efficient cascading aerators and submersible mixers to enhance the level of dissolved oxygen in the water and floating wetlands treatment to purify the water further. (iv) Rural Development: Syngene undertakes a series of measures to address the needs of education, health, civic infrastructure, housing, water and sanitation in rural Karnataka. Rural development projects have far-reaching positive impacts, and CSR-prompted initiatives can secure real and lasting benefits.
In Haliyal taluk in Uttara Kannada district, Karnataka, Syngene constructed and equipped a women’s hostel for rural women to enable training in vocational skills for women from the weaker sections of society at the Canara Bank Deshpande Rural Self-Employment Training Institute.
