Suppliers’ Corner

Syngene addresses a wide range of needs for its global customer base across discovery, development and manufacturing for small molecules and biologics. Our procurement strategy is vital to our commitment to quality and innovation, enabling us to maintain high standards across all scientific and industrial activities.

What we procure

Syngene’s procurement team manages the material, equipment and service needs across its facilities in Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Mangalore overseeing a diverse supply chain of over 3,000 suppliers across 30+ countries. Our annual procurement spend exceeds INR 1,800 Crores1 across diverse categories such as key starting materials, reagents, solvents, packaging, consumables, animals, corporate services, logistics, equipment, IT, spares and infrastructure. Our procurement team consistently strives to build a supply chain which meets the world-class standards in operational excellence. Suppliers undergo a rigorous evaluation and selection process to meet the desired standards across safety, quality and sustainability. We ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) through a stringent supplier qualification process that aligns with global regulatory standards. Suppliers are also subjected to periodic audits, upskilling and assessments to drive continuous improvement in operational excellence.

Responsible sourcing

At Syngene, we aim to be a world-class partner to global pharmaceutical innovators, delivering cutting-edge scientific solutions that improve lives. Our commitment to sustainable business practices is embedded across our value chain, guided by our supplier code of conduct and sustainable procurement policy. We conduct procurement in a transparent, and responsible manner, ensuring alignment with our vision of fostering social, ethical, and environmental sustainability.

In line with our environmental goals, Syngene has set greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction targets, officially validated by the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi). As per our emissions target (Scope 3), 81.6%2 of our suppliers are expected to set their own science-based targets by FY2028 for emissions across purchased goods and services, capital goods, and upstream transportation and distribution.

To realize this expectation, we have launched our ‘supplier decarbonization program,’ designed to educate, monitor progress, and provide resources to help suppliers in their decarbonization journey.

Over the past few years, Syngene has been strengthening every step of its procurement process by incorporating environmental, social, and governance (ESG) aspects. Our key suppliers are periodically evaluated on these ESG aspects, ensuring compliance and adoption of sustainable practices. For instance, Syngene mandates its suppliers to sign the anti-bribery and anti-corruption (ABAC) policy during the onboarding stage.

Our supplier engagement model

Suppliers are essential partners in our business, and we focus on cultivating strong, collaborative relationships built on mutual trust and transparency. Our approach aims to foster excellence, innovation, and growth for both Syngene and its supplier partners.

Syngene has adopted a robust supplier engagement framework to engage effectively with its suppliers. Our procurement category leads work closely with the suppliers to review and consistently improve the business performance to deliver value for the end-customers.

We are always looking for qualified and committed suppliers to join our network. If you are interested in partnering with Syngene and contributing to shaping the future of healthcare, we encourage you to contact us.
