COVID- 19 Relief

It was not just our healthcare programs that persisted through lockdowns. In a bid to support the government infrastructure, Syngene committed a significant part of its CSR contribution towards setting up an ICMR-approved lab that would conduct RT-PCR tests for the Government of Karnataka. Approximately 357,000 RT-PCR tests have been completed for the Government of Karnataka (this figure includes employees and their families tested).

  • The eLAJ smart clinics continue to play a pivotal role during the ongoing pandemic. In keeping with the “Test, Track and Treat” strategy of the Government in India, the eLAJ clinics have been able to ramp up the number of daily COVID-19 tests rapidly.  This has been possible due to the availability of staff well-versed with digital health techniques since they are trained on electronic medical records (EMR) and integrated diagnostics. Therefore, the eLAJ staff were immediately deputed for contact tracing and RT-PCR testing in the field upon the COVID-19 outbreak. Data sets were regularly updated by eLAJ staff in the field through the software application of ICMR. With the commencement of the COVID-19 vaccination program, the staff have also been deputed for vaccination-related data entry.
  • Syngene, through the foundation, conducted a vaccination drive at eLAJ smart clinic for residents of Huskur in Bangalore. The eLAJ EMR data played a major role in identifying priority groups such as geriatric patients, co-morbidities and differently abled people for vaccination. More than 2,700 eligible individuals were vaccinated in the drive. Our front-line health care workers at the eLAJ centers continue to work with the government health workforce for COVID-19 management activities such as RT-PCR testing, contact tracing and vaccination program.
  • Frontline healthcare workers have worked relentlessly since the pandemic started. We offered our support by providing the Anekal taluk – Bangalore district workers with food parcels every day. With the lockdown in place, all restaurants were shut, making it challenging to get a meal. Cooking at home is not an option as many of them work for long hours. In association with the Foundation and in partnership with Akshaya Patra, over 600 meals a day were distributed to doctors, nurses, accredited social health activist (ASHA) workers, crematoria staff, ambulance drivers and other allied healthcare workers at thirteen primary healthcare centers and the Anekal General Hospital in Bangalore. The staff at the City Municipal Council and the pourakarmikas in Hebbagodi were also included.
