Introduced in 2019, Science on Wheels aims to provide hands-on learning experiences in government schools. Initially launched in Anekal near Bangalore, the initiative has expanded to Chikkaballapura, Dakshina Kannada, and Medchal-Malkajgiri in Karnataka and Telangana. Equipped with science models, it benefits over 9,000 students from fifth to ninth grades across 60+ schools. Labs are set up in mobile vans or on bikes. Labs on bikes are essential for reaching remote areas where access to educational resources is limited. These bike labs ensure that students in these regions receive the same quality of science education as other schools in the region. Regular science fairs encourage students to apply scientific knowledge to real-world problems. A third-party impact evaluation showed positive effects on students’ interests, academic performance, and teachers’ pedagogical practices.
Synquizitive 2024 generated significant excitement around science and technology. In its third edition, the annual quiz competition engaged over 10,000 students from 200 government schools in Bengaluru, Dakshina Kannada, and Hyderabad. Syngene inaugurated three smart classrooms in the winning schools, enhancing interactive digital learning with EdTech tools and curriculum resources.
Syngene partners with Hyderabad’s Science and Technology (S&T) cluster under the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser. This program empowers women from low-income backgrounds to pursue STEM education and build successful careers. In collaboration with the Research & Innovation Circle of Hyderabad (RICH), Syngene is expanding the program to women from smaller cities, equipping them with the skills and resources to thrive in the workforce. Over the last two years, over 50 women from tier 2 and tier 3 universities were given scholarships, Syngene scientists mentored them, and they interned with different companies in the industry.
